How do I book a first session?

Reach out through the Contact page, text/call at (825) 559-9646, or email at info@rockantutoring.ca with your name, your student's grade and subject, and how to best reach you. I typically respond within 24 hours to answer any questions and set up a first session.

How far in advance do I need to schedule sessions?

I recommend booking at least 2 days in advance, especially around exam periods when spots fill up quickly. For ongoing weekly sessions, we can set a recurring time that works for your schedule, and that spot will be held for you unless I hear otherwise. Please let me know if you would like to be on a cancelation list.

Can sessions be rescheduled ?

Yes — I ask for at least 6 hours' notice to reschedule. Rescheduling with less than 6 hours' notice will incur a $30 fee.

What if my child needs a one-off session vs. weekly tutoring?

Both are available — one-off sessions for exam prep or a specific topic, or weekly sessions for ongoing support. Let me know what fits your student best when you reach out.

What time zones/hours are sessions available in?

I'm based in Mountain Time (Alberta) and offer sessions during Monday-Saturday. Let me know your availability and we'll find a time that works.

Logistics and scheduling

Can sessions be cancelled?

Yes — I ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged in full for the session.

Cost and Payment

How and when do I pay?

After each session, I'll send an invoice to your email with payment instructions. Payment can be made by e-transfer or credit card, and is due before your next session.

If you'd prefer to pay monthly instead of after each session, just let me know and we can arrange that.

If payment isn't received in time, the upcoming session won't take place, and the missed-session fee under the cancellation policy will still apply.

What payment methods do you accept?

E-transfer / credit card

Is there a discount for booking multiple sessions or a package?

Not for booking a package upfront, but I do run discounts for returning students at the beginning of the semester (grades 10-12) or school year (grade 7-9).

Do you offer a trial or first-session discount?

Yes — mention this ad/poster for $15 off your first session.

What happens if I need to cancel — do I still get charged?

If you cancel with at least 24 hours' notice, there's no charge. Cancelling with less notice than that results in a full charge for the session. See our full cancellation policy above for details.

Do discounts stack?

No — only one discount per session.

Do I get anything if I return?

Yes — I run a returning student program: you'll receive $10 off your next 3 sessions. This applies at the start of the school year for grades 7–12, and additionally at the start of the winter/spring semester for grades 10–12.

Do I get anything if I refer anyone?

Yes — I run a referral program, where you and the person you refer each get $10 off/session, for up to two sessions.

Preparing for a session

Do I need to prepare anything before a session?

Yes — please send notes, specific questions, or topics you'd like to cover ahead of time. Sessions without this may need extra time to look up material, which can reduce how much we get through.

How long are sessions?

60 minutes by default, unless otherwise confirmed at booking. Sessions running longer than agreed may incur additional fees.

Curriculum and subject fit

What if my child's course isn't on your subjects list?

Reach out and let me know the course — the list on the Pricing and Subjects page isn't exhaustive, and I'm happy to confirm whether I can support it. I will support the math heavy concepts found in high school chemistry for current students only.

Do you tutor for specific exams (provincial exams, diploma exams, finals)?

Yes — I offer tutoring specifically for diploma exams / finals / provincial assessments. Please note that weekly students will have booking priority.

Can you help with a specific unit/topic rather than the whole course?

Yes — sessions do not have to weekly and can focus on a specific unit, topic, or set of problems. Please note availability may be limited.

Do you support French immersion math students, and how does that work if sessions are in English?

Yes — I support students in French immersion programs. All sessions are conducted in spoken English, but I'm familiar with French immersion math curriculum and terminology.

Technology and session format

What do I need for a session?

A computer with video and mic capability (or a separate mic and camera setup), a stable internet connection, and a quiet space free of distractions. Not required, but headphones can be helpful. Please come with a calculator and be prepared to take notes, either with a pen/pencil and paper or if you have the ability to write on a screen, even better.

What platform do you use?

Sessions are held over Zoom, using the whiteboard feature to work through problems together.

What if there are technical issues during a session?

Let me know right away, via text/call or email and we'll troubleshoot and continue with any remaining time at no extra charge, or reschedule the remaining time at no extra charge. If the technical problem is on my end, that time will either be added on at the end, or deducted from the session cost.

Do you provide notes after each session?

Yes — I'll send a PDF of the session's notes from the whiteboard afterward, along with an invoice for payment. I ask that you take some form of notes, either on the whiteboard, or on paper throughout the session.

Trust and safety

Do you have a background check?

Yes, a current background check is on file and available upon request.

Will a parent be able to sit in on sessions?

Yes — though students can be more self conscious when parents are present.

How do you communicate with parents about progress?

I'm happy to send periodic updates by email, please let me know if you would like that, or you're welcome to check in anytime.
